Is your son or daughter in need of algebra help? Do you think your child is smart but just don’t get good numbers for some reason? Trust me you’re not alone in that question. Many parents are in the same dilemma.

The reason your smart child doesn’t get good number is because either there are some stop gaps that prevent him/her understand topics at school or his/her teachers do not explain the subject properly at school. This could have devastating effects down the road on advance learning. Our mission is to lay a strong foundation down for our students so they could learn advance topics themselves without a constant need from outside.

Fixed Mindset

People with fixed mindset believe that skills and intelligence are predetermined. They think success hinges on how smart you are – and serious personal growth and development aren’t possible.

Growth Mindset

People with growth mindset believe that with practice and support, they can develop and grow their abilities. They are failure as a temporary setback and gives themselves permission.

As a parent, you’ll often face difficult situations with your kids. There is way you could help your child think differently.

If you hear…

I wasn’t going to pass that test anyway.

You could say: “Failing that test was hurtful, but what did you learn from the test experience that can help you next time?”

My schoolteacher doesn’t help me at all

You could say: “Do you like to set a parent teacher meeting so we could discuss it formally with your teacher”

I don’t like to ask questions in the class.

You could say: “Listen….. I wonder what your close friends would say are your strengths”

Make the most out of mistakes

_

When students have growth mindset, they see failure as an opportunity for growth.

Don’t let good mistakes go to waste, – They are great fodder for coaching.

Remember to praise effort, not just results. By signaling the value of traits like persistence, hard work, and curiosity, you position your child for long-term success.

Avoid telling success stories that emphasize shortcuts and intelligence. Rather tell them success stories of continuous hard work and improvements.

Real Story

_

I teach Algebra to an individual named Tanya. Tanya is a high school student. And in her class, she’s experienced two major changes in a very short span of time.

  • she started realizing that there are some stop gaps which is preventing her to understand the lessons taught by her teacher.
  • Her favorite teacher has moved on to a different place and she had trouble understanding methods taught by her new teacher.

And for Tanya, this was incredibly disorienting.

In my work with her, we had Tanya really think about what her mindset and experience with change was. She wasn’t embracing it. She learned to re-frame. And in re-framing, she began to see some of these changes as not hurdles, but real opportunities – opportunities for growth and development. Tanya began to spend much more time in elevating her Math skills. With mentored learning with me, she was able to bridge the stop gaps and pull her grades significantly up.
